I Just Have to Talk About One of My Favourite Writers

When I first started reading Reverse Harem books, I joined a certain Facebook community page and suddenly I found that this tiny little world I had caught a glimpse of, was actually way bigger than I could have imagined. Suddenly I had found this world of people that read like I did! One of the coolest things about this group was that authors (established and new) will post in the group for advanced readers. Advanced readers get a free copy of the book before it is published in exchange for honest reviews. It is considered polite, that if you love the book, you would then purchase your own copy so that the author gets the appropriate recognition for their hard work.

An author that I found this way, was Marie Robinson. When the first book in her Magical Kingdoms series was about to be released, she reached out to the community for readers who would like to ARC for her. I had no idea what this was to be honest, but I loved the sound of her book, so I answered her call.

Stone and Fire came my way and bang! Life changing. I could escape into Maeve's world. Maeve is a princess who basically has to run away to life in a tower with 4 dragons. Ok, right there, that had me. But, chuck in Maeve's personality, feisty, intelligent, determined and curious. Then, add 4 dragons, who aren't what they seem, a godmother, a magic mirror and a curse. Yeah, you get the picture. It was awesome. It was like Tolkien and Disney had a baby. I was in heaven.

Stone and Blood and Stone and Ash are also currently available and book 4, Stone and Iron releases April 10. I am both excited about reading it and sad because that's it for Maeve's story I believe. Although I'm sure that Marie Robinson will probably write more set in the same world. That's the other thing, the world building is totally awesome. You can practically feel the castle floors under your feet or see the view from the tower in your head. It's not done by lengthy descriptive passages either but woven into the narrative.

Marie Robinson has a new series releasing 1st March, which she has co-written with B.C. Palmer. As soon as they asked for ARC readers on facebook, I leapt at the chance. The Last Promethean 1; Under the Gods, I devoured it in between making sure my son's 4th birthday still happened and sleeping. This series mixes dystopian, mythology and reverse harem. Had me there, dystopian lets us be familiar with the bones of the world, but my how things have changed. Mythology is like crack for me and well, I think we all know how I feel about reverse harem. Slow burn and YA, so a bit different from Magical Kingdom but it's so good. The highlights were the different perspectives, 3 of the 4 main characters have a voice in the story telling. And it totally makes sense why the 4th one doesn't, but I will say no more on that! The action is fast paced and exciting and I honestly just loved it.
