When I first started reading Reverse Harem books, I joined a certain Facebook community page and suddenly I found that this tiny little world I had caught a glimpse of, was actually way bigger than I could have imagined. Suddenly I had found this world of people that read like I did! One of the coolest things about this group was that authors (established and new) will post in the group for advanced readers. Advanced readers get a free copy of the book before it is published in exchange for honest reviews. It is considered polite, that if you love the book, you would then purchase your own copy so that the author gets the appropriate recognition for their hard work.
An author that I found this way, was Marie Robinson. When the first book in her Magical Kingdoms series was about to be released, she reached out to the community for readers who would like to ARC for her. I had no idea what this was to be honest, but I loved the sound of her book, so I answered her call.
Stone and Fire came my way and bang! Life changing. I could escape into Maeve's world. Maeve is a princess who basically has to run away to life in a tower with 4 dragons. Ok, right there, that had me. But, chuck in Maeve's personality, feisty, intelligent, determined and curious. Then, add 4 dragons, who aren't what they seem, a godmother, a magic mirror and a curse. Yeah, you get the picture. It was awesome. It was like Tolkien and Disney had a baby. I was in heaven.
Stone and Blood and Stone and Ash are also currently available and book 4, Stone and Iron releases April 10. I am both excited about reading it and sad because that's it for Maeve's story I believe. Although I'm sure that Marie Robinson will probably write more set in the same world. That's the other thing, the world building is totally awesome. You can practically feel the castle floors under your feet or see the view from the tower in your head. It's not done by lengthy descriptive passages either but woven into the narrative.
Marie Robinson has a new series releasing 1st March, which she has co-written with B.C. Palmer. As soon as they asked for ARC readers on facebook, I leapt at the chance. The Last Promethean 1; Under the Gods, I devoured it in between making sure my son's 4th birthday still happened and sleeping. This series mixes dystopian, mythology and reverse harem. Had me there, dystopian lets us be familiar with the bones of the world, but my how things have changed. Mythology is like crack for me and well, I think we all know how I feel about reverse harem. Slow burn and YA, so a bit different from Magical Kingdom but it's so good. The highlights were the different perspectives, 3 of the 4 main characters have a voice in the story telling. And it totally makes sense why the 4th one doesn't, but I will say no more on that! The action is fast paced and exciting and I honestly just loved it.
So, enough of my gushing, but if you would like to discover Marie Robinson, here are some links;

A Bibliophile's Guide to Reverse Harem
I've always been a Biblophile - a vicarious reader and then I had kids, I went from reading at least a book a day to not touching books for about three years. Once I started again all I wanted to read was paranormal fantasy, high fantasy and urban fantasy, preferably romance. Then I discovered reverse harem and I haven't stopped reading like I used to, since!

An Exciting New Voice in Reverse Harem
I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to read an advanced reader copy (ARC) of a book by a new reverse harem author. Rowan Thalia has recently released her first book Binding Rayne, it's the first in a trilogy which is quick releasing over the next few months and she also has another trilogy coming soon.
Binding Rayne was really exciting to me, here's my review that I have posted to Amazon and Goodreads, but I wanted to discuss it a bit more in depth here.
Binding Rayne by Rowan Thalia starts off as a ghost story but soon turns into an epic reverse harem saga. A team of under the radar, paranormal investigators are sent to a creepy hotel and a cabin in the woods to find a woman who has gone missing. Basically, ghosts scare them all, then it gets really crazy, demons, shifters, witches and a damn good ghost spooking combine with reverse harem in an epic new way. I loved the good old ghost story feeling and once the story started to expand and wee hints of what we can expect next came into it, I was sucked right in. Although a lot of these themes are in other paranormal reverse harem books, I truly heard a new voice in Thalia. I will be waiting with baited breath for the next two books in the series!
There was a few things that made me pay attention more in this book. Firstly the settings, I could practically smell the musty old cabin and see the forest in my head. The descriptions were well tied into the story telling, so I didn't feel like I was being taken out of the action to be told where we were. The ghostly spookiness of it was incredibly well written. I love a good horror movie or story and the goosebumps were out on my entire body for a good portion of the book! It brought back memories of reading Christopher Pike and point horror novels when I was a teen. And I loved the characters. Yes there was definitely a bit of alpha male behaviour, but one thing I loved was that the guys were all incredibly respectful. Rayne herself is a fantastic MC and I can't wait to see how she evolves as she gains more knowledge of herself and her powers.
Here's a few links for you and I hope that you will read and enjoy (and review!) Rowan's books. I wish her all the success in the world!

My thoughts and ponderings on reverse harem novels
I must admit, the first time I read a reverse harem, I did think to myself why am I enjoying reading this? Then it hit me (and this is only my personal experience) I've been married for ten years and I have 2 small children, before I met my husband I had one long term relationship and one, one night stand. Although I'm comfortable with sex and my own experiences with it, I've never slept with more than one man at a time and I hadn't really given it too much thought. I guess I'm a bit innocent in the ways of poly relationships. Apart from the normal (ie. not reverse) harem and the odd mention at random of a threesome, I hadn't given it more than a passing thought.
I've now been reading reverse harem novels for about a year and I now find I prefer them to traditional romance novels. Perhaps its the escapism from my normal everyday life, I'm not sure but I find them to be the most wonderful, rich stories. I've also noticed that there is a strong paranormal portion of reverse harem stories. As paranormal has always been my favourite, this is another reason I'm hooked.
The key to a good imagination is to suspend your disbelief. In other words, if you start to question how something could work in real life, then you are thinking too much. To fully enjoy a good book, I find myself totally ignoring any facts or aspects that can't possibly be true. If I want to write a short story or a poem, it is inevitably about something that isn't real. I love how this world seems to slowly be coming more acceptable of different ways and people. Maybe in the future if there is a shortage of females, then we will all have multiple partners and we will look back on the past with our old fashioned idea of one man and one woman marriages and just shake our heads. I hope that is the case and I also hope that fairies and shifters and unicorns are real too. Even if it's only in our own, enlightened heads.

An Introduction
What is reverse harem? Reverse harem is when a lady has 3 or more partners. Sometimes they all do stuff together, sometimes they don't. The books cover all genres, contemporary, fantasy, sci fi, you name it, there will be one. And that is part of what makes it such a rich genre, in my opinion.
My first reverse harem book was in a series called the Lick of Fire collection which a bunch of authors wrote. I found that because I loved paranormal fantasy romance books and several of my favorite authors were part of it. Hell is a Harem by Mila Young. I had my mind blown away by this book. For starters I totally loved it, the characters, the world, all of it. But then, the main character Lorn was kind of getting it on with more than one guy. At first, I thought what the hell? But then I realized two things, one; books for me are about escapism, I want to immerse my imagination in a place and situation so far removed from my own that I can totally escape my life for a bit (I love my life) and two; ever since I read Flowers in the Attic, books are totally porn for me. Escapism porn? Yes please! I would like to point out here that there are reverse harem books that are technically YA or NA which means that you don't read about any of the physical encounters. Some of these books are so amazing and well written but to be honest, I like all the details because I'm never going to experience more than one man at a time personally.
Another wonderful thing about the reverse harem reader community, is how inclusive it is. I belong to lots of readers groups on Facebook and they are full of people from all over the world, all stages of life and situations. It's amazing to have something to bond over with strangers. It feels like a lot of writers are self publishing and this can only benefit us, as readers. I have never run out of books to read yet and have a huge to be read pile.
So what is the point of this blog? I'd like to share reviews of books I would recommend and I'd love to help introduce new readers to the genre. I'm lucky enough to be on quite a few writers ARC teams and it's great reviewing on Amazon and Goodreads, but I'd also like to share them here in perhaps a more in-depth fashion. I'd also like to share my many questions and thoughts with hopefully, like minded people!
If you (and I hope that there is someone out there reading this!) have any questions or suggestions, then please let me know! I'm planning on making a mega list of all my favourite books and whether they are stand alone or part of a series.
